About
Feeding Northeast Florida is the local Feeding America food bank, serving eight counties in the area. They work with local grocery stores, manufacturers, and farms to find high-quality food that would normally be wasted and use a network of partners to transform it into meals for those in need.

In 2016, they provided 12.3 million meals to their network of social service agencies.

Our Analysis
Financial information comes from the latest public Form 990 filing.

Financial Overview

Feeding Northeast Florida (also known as Regional Food Bank of Northeast Florida) brought in a solid $38.1 million in revenue according to their latest report.

Income Sources

Of the $37.5 million they had in contributions, $35.8 million were “noncash” contributions – or food donations. Only $1.7 million in cash contributions were made, plus $124,000 in fundraising events.

Expenses and Philanthropic Spending

Feeding Northeast Florida is extremely efficient with their spending, with just over 98% of spending going to their mission. We like to see a charity spend at least 75% on their mission, so 98% is exceptional. They had very modest fundraising costs and even smaller administrative costs.

Spending on mission
36,740,903 ÷ 37,399,276 = 98.2%

Spending on administrative costs
215,231 ÷ 37,399,276 = 0.6%

Spending on fundraising
443,142 ÷ 37,399,276 = 1.2%

Since the food they receive is distributed to other charities charities, we like to look at the amount of support that actually went to the other charities. With $37.6 million in contributions last year, $35.2 million went to other charities. This is 94%, which is still very respectable.

Our Conclusion
Feeding Northeast Florida has shown to be extremely efficient with their spending while providing a worthy cause. They say just $1 in donations can provide six meals, which is hard to beat. We give them a HIGHLY RECOMMEND rating.

They also have numerous volunteer opportunities, which can be found here:
