About
Formed in 1966, Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida provides after-school programs to disadvantaged youths to help develop the qualities they need to gain skills, experience positive peer influence, and improve their academic success. They serve over 5,000 students in their 25 sites throughout Duval and St. Johns counties.
They have been active in their acquisitions over the past year. In May of 2017, the Boys and Girls Clubs assumed the operations of The Bridge of Northeast Florida, which provided programs for inner-city youth.
In June of 2017, they acquired Project SOS, which offered in-school programs to help teens with goal setting, bullying, drugs and alcohol, pregnancy, and suicide. Project SOS served over 10,000 students annually and also expanded the after-school focus of the Boys and Girls Clubs to cover an entire day.

Our Analysis
Financial information comes from the latest public Form 990 filing.
Financial Overview
The two large acquisitions have occurred since their latest financial statement, so a relevant analysis of the current state of the nonprofit will be impossible. One thing we can see from their 2015 filing is a heavy reliance on government grants to fund the organization, which is something they have been trying to get away from. The acquisitions may have been undertaken as a way for the Boys and Girls Club to tap into new revenue sources.

Our Conclusion
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida is a respected organization with a great mission. The large acquisitions recently undertaken make it difficult for us to evaluate at this time, so we give them a CAUTIOUSLY RECOMMEND rating – solely due to uncertainties this has created.
