About
Baptist Health is Northeast Florida’s largest nonprofit healthcare provider, operating five hospitals and a network of physician offices. They describe their mission as continuing the healing ministry of Christ by providing accessible, quality health care services at a reasonable cost in an atmosphere that fosters respect and compassion.

The Baptist Health Foundation supports the health system's not-for-profit mission by working with patients, civic groups, foundations and corporations who wish to make charitable gifts to Baptist Health.

Our Analysis

Being the largest nonprofit healthcare group in Northeast Florida, Baptist obviously brings in a lot of money every year ($989.2 million). The vast majority of the money they bring in comes from hospital revenue ($896.0 million) and a smaller amount comes from contributions ($3.6 million).

They do a good job in spending their money on health services, with a little more than 90% going to their mission and 10% to overhead. A “good” charity spends more than 75% directly on programs, so Baptist’s 90% is very good. They also have no fundraising expenses.

Spending on mission
731,433,824 ÷ 806,456,084 = 90.7%

The image below breaks down the $3.6 million received in contributions. The vast majority comes from “Related organizations,” which would be the Baptist Foundation. Donors can contribute to the Foundation by either donating to Baptist Health or Wolfson. The money is then pooled into one pot, but is kept separate by an accounting entry.

Our Conclusion
Baptist Health Baptist does a lot to help the community and they spend their money efficiently. They get a RECOMMEND rating, but we think their large size limits the impact of an average-sized donation. If you are looking to make a difference, a donation of your time may have more impact than a financial donation.
